Mentoring is a “formal two way peer to peer relationship, designed around a solution oriented mindset – that supports the mentee through a learning / developmental journey that is subject specific and grounded in the uniqueness of their circumstance and the challenges they face.”
When we are asked to work in the realms of intangible natures – such as Culture ; Performance ; People and Engagement – there is often not only a question of where to begin but also how to bring structure overall and enrol stakeholders to provide their input, commitment and leadership to the journey. This is the environment where most don’t know WHAT it takes to shift a culture ; or don’t believe that culture is relevant to strategy or performance ; or if they do understand the criticality of consciously managing cultures along with other organisational constructs – they don’t have the energy or willingness to dedicate their full hearted commitment to implementing such endevours – let alone craft and lead them.
Thus for those asked to champion such causes – particularly where there isn’t a fully committed, united and energetic power behind the intention to shift the culture – the task of creation and leadership can seem to be almost impossible. And also a lonely place from which to drive change. The role of the Mentor is to support such individuals and teams, in finding a path to define and deliver the agreed culture
The Mentoring offering centres around the sharing of expertise in the following the subject matter areas – including those that are adjunct to culture itself:
- Co-creating strategy, processes and the leadership capabilities needed for the design and implementation of successful culture transformation
- Thought partnership during role transitions – in particular on-boarding into a new role at Senior / Executive Leadership level
- Individual immersion in the development of Personal Leadership and Mastery
- Designing roadmaps and approaches for culture due diligence AND culture integration during Mergers and Acquisitions
The Role of the Mentor embraces:
- Outside-in and Inside-out perspectives
- Pushing thinking ‘behond the box’ through challenging current paradigms and mindsets, and faciliating generative dialogue
- Provision of specific guidance based on international experience and success
- Trusted confidante operating within a safe container that supports self discovery and knowledge accumulation
- Knowledge sharing, skill and capability building
